England manager Gareth Southgate has snubbed Liverpool right back Trent Alexander-Arnold and left him out of the latest England squad.
This gave many Liverpool supporters mixed emotions; happy because he gets the extra rest but upset because Trent is undoubtedly the best English right back.
Steven Gerrard has come to the defense of Alexander-Arnold saying, "I'll always be there for Trent."
"It goes without saying, any second of the day. I wouldn't make the first move. He's a man himself."
The former Red and current Rangers manager went on to say that while he disagrees with the decision, he understands that it is not up to him.
"I don't necessarily agree with that decision. But I'm not the England manager. I think Trent is the best English right back in the country."
Steven Gerrard, who has said that he dreams of becoming Liverpool manager, admitted that he was surprised by Southgate's decision.
"When you do come off, you need that support, love and attention from your manager more than anyone else."
"Trent is a world-class right back, he's the best right back the country has got. We've got other fantastic right backs by the way."
Steven Gerrard, even after winning the Scottish Premiership title with Rangers FC, has still made himself available to Trent Alexander-Arnold. The young right back could not have a better mentor or player to talk to during his poor run of form.
Liverpool supporters will hope that the extra rest will have their Scouser back playing as the best right back in the world.
