Taiwo Awoniyi's Liverpool career really never got started. Due to work permit issues, the striker has yet to feature for The Reds.
The Nigerian striker has spent the last six seasons on loan to various clubs. The clubs that he has been on loan for include: FSV Frankfurt, NEC Jijmegen, Royal Excel Mouscron (2017-18 & 2019), KAA Gent, Mainz 05 and now Union Berlin.
Although he has yet to feature for Jurgen Klopp's side, Taiwo Awoniyi says, "Liverpool will always be the priority for me and I am grateful to everyone at the club."
Even though it is still his priority, he can do nothing about the work permit issues that he continues to have.
"I still don’t have the work permit to play in England. I am still a Liverpool player until the last day of my contract, no one knows what the future holds."
The 23 year-old forward is currently plying his trade in Germany for Union Berlin in the Bundesliga. In 16 league appearances, the Liverpool loanee has five goals and two assists.
"My dream has always been to play in the Premier League and it’s why I signed for Liverpool. I still keep the dream alive but if leaving will facilitate it, why not? The future is in God’s hands and I keep my hope alive."
Although he does not have his work permit sorted, he has not given up hope of playing for the Reds.
“At the moment it is impossible to say what might or might not happen in the future, but I trust and believe in God and that keeps all of my hopes alive.”
