Liverpool have been linked with a host of world class players ahead of the summer transfer window. The Reds have been strongly linked with moves for Kylian Mbappe, Jadon Sancho and even Erling Haaland. However, one thing is present in every report--Liverpool cannot afford these players unless one of the front three leave this summer. That means that Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane or Roberto Firmino would have to depart in order to have one of these players come in.
It seems that one of them has drummed up some recent interest from one of the Bundesliga giants, Borussia Dortmund. Reports out of Denmark from TV 2 Danmark claim that Borussia Dortmund have submitted a €70m bid for Sadio Mane.
Borussia Dortmund Bid For Mane
Sadio Mane has had what many have called a down season. Compared to last year's Premier League campaign, the Senegal international has fifty percent less goals this season. This year Sadio Mane has nine Premier League goals compared to 18 last season.
The electric winger has featured 47 times across all competitions this season for Liverpool, scoring 14 times and assisting nine goals compared to 22 goals and 12 assists in 2019/20.
Liverpool Need Funds For Kylian Mbappe Or Jadon Sancho
As previously mentioned, Liverpool have been linked with many world class players but would need to sell in order to fund a move for someone like Mbappe. Selling Sadio Mane would go a long way to funding a transfer of that calibre, but Liverpool will be reluctant to do so.
Sadio Mane has played a large part in Liverpool's resurgence since joining from Southampton in 2016 for £34 million. At the time, this move made Sadio Mane the most expensive African player in history.
Jurgen Klopp and the rest of the Liverpool staff will be hoping that Mane can put his poor season behind him as The Reds collectively look to bounce back from a disappointing season.
However, Mane is 29 years old and has already begun to lose value. With the Liverpool squad beginning to age and creep closer to 30-years-old, Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards may see this bid as a good opportunity to get value for Mane while it is still there.
It is not known whether Liverpool will entertain this bid, but it will surely give Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards something to think about.
