According to a report from Kicker on Friday, VfB Stuttgart are targeting Loris Karius as their new number one Keeper for next season. Loris Karius has fallen out of favour at Liverpool ever since his disastrous 90 minutes against Real Madrid in the 2018 Champions League Final.
Since then, Karius has been on two different loans. First he went to Turkish side Besiktas and this season he joined Union Berlin, but he has been forced to play second fiddle, only starting five matches all season for the German side.
Loris Karius Could Permanently Leave Liverpool This Summer
Stuttgart signing Karius hinges on whether their current number one keeper Gregor Kobel leaves this summer. The Swiss keeper is very highly rated in Germany and according the same report by Kicker, Borussia Dortmund are eyeing him up for a reported fee of €15m (£12.9m).
Karius isn't the only keeper that Stuttgart are targeting, Mainz’s Florian Muller has also been shortlisted to replace Kobel if he leaves.
Liverpool Risk Losing Karius On A Free Transfer
Karius has two years left on his current contract and if Liverpool want to recoup any of the £5.5million they spent on him, he will have to be sold this year before he walks away on a free transfer.
Even though Karius made the two huge mistakes that have seemed to ended his Liverpool career, before then when his confidence was high, he looked like a very competent keeper.
The German has not lived up to his potential that Jurgen Klopp was hoping for when he was signed but that doesn't mean isn't a solid keeper. He is still only 27 years-old, which for a goalkeeper is still relatively young. No matter what happens this summer, it unfortunately looks like Karius' time at Liverpool will come to an end sooner rather than later.
