As we get closer to the summer transfer window, Liverpool are being linked with several names as possible midfield reinforcements and the latest one to appear in the media is Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski.
In 2016, the now 26-years-old player admitted that Jurgen Klopp was interested in bringing him to Anfield, and even went as far as saying that Liverpool contacted him for a move.
In a recent Twitter Space discussion, LFC Transfer Room's Daniel Izquierdo asked Gianluca Di Marzio regarding the rumours linking Piotr Zieliński to Liverpool and how likely a move for the Serie A midfielder is.
"Zielinski is an old target, for sure Liverpool will be interested but it really depends on the budget [That Liverpool have in the summer]. Liverpool were very close to signing Zielinski [in 2016] but didn't push through with the move."
"With Zielinski, a lot of teams like him not just Liverpool, so it depends if Liverpool have the budget and if they will push [for the move] there is interest."
It seems like Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards have closely watched Zielinski's progress after the move fell through four years back. Whether the Reds decide to reignite their interest in the Polish playmaker will most likely depend on Georginio Wijnaldum's decision to leave or extend his contract and stay with the Reds.
The upcoming months will be crucial for Liverpool's recruitment they work on rejuvenating a squad that needs fresh legs and additional quality in many areas.
