Naby Keita has had a very up and down Liverpool career since joining from RB Leipzig in 2018. The Guinea international cost Liverpool a reported fee of £54million and he came into Liverpool with a very high expectation to deliver straight away.
Unfortunately, Keita has been riddled with minor injuries since joining the Reds and has not been able to string a solid run of games together. It is important to say that when Keita does get a decent run of games under his belt, he looks amazing and looks like the player Liverpool signed but he'll usually pick up a knock shortly after and he'll miss the next few weeks of matches.
Since signing for the Reds, Naby Keita has only managed to play 53 games in the Premier League. After being the first player to take the legendary number 8 shirt since Steven Gerrard, it hasn't really been the fairytale signing we were all hoping for.
Simeone is said to be a big fan of Naby, it's reported that Keita will be his 'first move' at the end of the current campaign.
Naby Keita only has two years left remaining on his contract at Liverpool and if he isn't going to break into the first team, then Liverpool will surely be looking to sell the player to acquire funds for future transfers.
Liverpool are never going to get the £54million that they paid Leipzig for Keita but if they can get a decent percentage of that back then it will be better than losing him for free in two years.
Atletico Madrid are currently on the cusp of winning another La Liga title under Diego Simeone and the Argentinian manager will be looking to strengthen his grip even further on the title for next season too. Naby Keita is said to be 'a great wish' for Simeone in the summer.
If a deal can be made, it may suit all parties. Liverpool recoup some of the original transfer fee for Keita, Atletico Madrid get a quality midfielder when he can stay fit and Naby Keita hopefully can regain his form that made Liverpool sign him from Germany, allowing him to get back to his best.
