REPORTS: Liverpool 'ready to invest €50m' on Kalidou Koulibaly; with "great chances" of leaving

Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport has reported that Liverpool are 'ready to invest' €50million for Kalidou Koulibaly, possibly highlighting a possible alternative to Ibrahima Konate.

Liverpool are 'ready to invest €50million' in experienced defender Kalidou Koulibaly according to Gazzetta dello Sport, via Sports Witness.

Ten days ago, the Reds were put on 'high alert' as the Senegalese international was put in the shop window.

It's unclear whether that this is as an alternative to Ibrahima Konate, following recent reports.

Konate is just one of the defenders that the Premier League champions have been linked with.

On Monday, the latest transfer saga unravelled as The Athletic's David Ornstein reported that Liverpool was finalising a deal to sign the Frenchman.

Today (Tuesday, March, 30), media outlets in France were publishing the conflicting report as that the 21-year-old had/hadn't already completed some of the medical checks ahead of a potential summer move.

Sport Witness report that the 29-year-old has been a long-term target for Liverpool with talks that if talks between the Reds and the RB Leipzig defender fall through, with the publication believes that Koulibaly could be their alternative.

Napoli have recently been mooted as a destination for Feyenoord defender, Marcos Senesi by the Italian outlet.

They have released two reports tipping the Cameroon defender with Liverpool. The latest instalment comes from Vincenzo Marabito's discussion with Gonfia La Rete on Radio Marte

Marabito said: “Koulibaly to Liverpool? Certainly, he has a market. Liverpool are a real and concrete possibility.

"They are already talking to the player’s entourage. Having said that, you must always see the evaluation. Pre Covid-19, there was talk of €100m, now the figures must be understood, in the market, they are now halved.

"We have to see if De Laurentiis sells him because it’s difficult for owners to accept a depreciation." The journalist continued. "Koulibaly has great chances of leaving for Liverpool. The club want to put him alongside Van Dijk."

The news of Koulibaly and Konate raises the question of the future of loanee Ozan Kabak.

He signed in January on a temporary deal, keeping him at Anfield until the end of the season with an option to buy.

Liverpool could sign the 21-year-old Turk for £18million plus add-ons but the BBC understands that they haven't made a decision on his future at the club.

It is worth noting that at this stage it is a lot of speculation and nothing is concrete surrounding talks between Koulibaly or Konate and the club.
