John Barnes will forever be a legend at Liverpool and rightfully so. The winger scored 84 goals for the Reds and was part of one of the best Liverpool squads assembled.
However since he has retired and became a pundit, he has had some questionable takes to say the least.
His most recent one came in a interview with bettingodds.com where Barnes was answering questions on England's chances at the EUROs and Liverpool came up in the questioning also.
Barnes was asked about Jadon Sancho and the possibility of him moving to the Premier League, he then said he would prefer to sign Barcelona's Ousmane Dembele over the highly rated Englishman for Liverpool.
“At Liverpool I’d prefer a much more direct player. Jadon is very skilful and very tricky, but I believe that Ousmane Dembele would suit Liverpool out of all the potentially available players in that position.
“Jadon Sancho is going to have to pick the club that suits his football best rather than the stature of the club. His teammate Erling Haaland has the same problem.
“Out of those clubs, then Manchester United will be best suited to Jadon Sancho. Are they interested? Does he want to go there? I don’t know.”
Dembele has been riddled with injury problems ever since joining Barcelona for an astonishing fee of £135.5million including add-ons.
He has had a good season this year though, he managed to play 44 games for Barcelona scoring 11 goals and getting five assists.
Liverpool have been linked with the young Frenchman for years now. A lot of the links with him have been largely to do with Jurgen Klopp's affiliation to Dembele's previous club Borussia Dortmund but Klopp is said to be a fan of the 24-year-old.
Dembele is still only 24-years-old and Klopp would definitely be able to improve him but it's all about his injury record and price.
Dembele has rarely been fit since joining Barca so it's unsure whether Liverpool would take the risk on him.
If he was to join it would have to be at a much reduced price to what Barcelona paid for him but if Liverpool did sign him then the fans would surely be behind the player to get back to his previous form he showed before joining Barcelona.
