According to multiple sources, Liverpool have completed a deal for RB Leipzig centre back Ibrahima Konaté. The medicals have been completed and Liverpool are going to trigger his buyout clause and announce him in the coming days.
This has put a big question mark over the future of current centre back Ozan Kabak who is on loan from FC Schalke.
Kabak has impressed Liverpool fans and a lot want to sign the Turkish centre back permanently this summer.
After announcing the completion of Konate to Liverpool, Fabrizio Romano also confirmed that Liverpool will not be 'paying €18m buy option to sign Ozan Kabak on a permanent'.
This news has upset some Liverpool fans as it seems like passing up the opportunity to sign the highly rated 21-year-old will come back and haunt them.
Schalke are looking to sell Kabak after being relegated to the Bundesliga 2 this season. Many clubs are interested in the young man, including RB Leipzig who will be in the market for a centre back after selling Konate to Liverpool.
It's also thought that Leicester are interested in Ozan after his impressive performances for the Reds this season. No matter where he ends up, whoever signs him will have a very good centre back who has a high ceiling to improve.
It seems like Klopp is not pushing to sign Kabak as Nat Phillips has massively improved since he gained his place in the team and Phillips will be happier to be a backup option over Kabak who will be hunting for regular football next season.
So it looks like Liverpool are going to be heading into the 2021/22 campaign with the following centre backs: Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konaté, Joel Matip and Nathaniel Phillips. Not a bad group of centre backs to have at your disposal all season round.
