Liverpool and Southampton are very familiar with one another when it comes to transfers. The Reds have signed several Southampton players in recent history including Liverpool stars Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk. However, recently the narrative has been switched with Southampton targeting Liverpool players.
On deadline day in January, it was reported that Southampton Manager Ralph Hasenhuttl had made contact with Jurgen Klopp to sign Liverpool youngster Neco Williams on loan for the rest of the season.
This was rejected by Liverpool as he was seen as an important player in the squad, especially with all of Liverpool's injuries in defence this season.
Southampton Expected To Return for Neco Williams
Since then, Trent Alexander-Arnold has massively improved on his poor start to the season and he is yet to pick up an injury so Williams has not been needed as much as he would've hoped.
With Southampton failing to agree a deal for Neco Williams, they turned their focus to another Liverpool player. Ralph Hasenhuttl's side did manage to agree a six month loan for Takumi Minamino on deadline day.
With it unlikely Southampton will return for Minamino in the summer, reports are coming out again that Hasenhuttl is still in the market for a versatile fullback and his interest in Neco Williams still remains.
The report also claims that Neco Williams will now become available in the summer with him not being in Jurgen Klopp's long-term plans anymore.
With Williams now being a full Wales international player, he may want regular game time to remain in the side. The Euros are going to massive for the 20 year-old, he needs to impressive Jurgen Klopp and show him he has what it takes to be a Liverpool player or he needs to play well to impress potential suitors.
