Watford are reportedly willing to sell their striker Ismaïla Sarr, with Liverpool one of the clubs tipped to sign the Senegalese forward.
The 23-year-old's 13 goals in the Championship has helped Watford bounce back from last season's relegation, winning promotion to the Premier League.
With Liverpool likely to seek reinforcements in this summer's transfer window, past targets have risen again to give the Reds more options to consider bringing to Anfield. Watford’s Ismaïla Sarr was linked with a move to Anfield last summer before the surprising arrival of Diogo Jota.
Liverpool decided against a move for Sarr as Watford had just been relegated making the Senegalese forwards price tag of 35-40 million unrealistic in the Reds eyes.
The Athletic Suggests that Watford would be willing to sell Ismaïla Sarr this summer as they are resigned to the fact the forwards future lies away from Vicarage Road. With the Hornets sitting seven points clear in second spot in the EFL Championship and likely to earn promotion, they would prefer to hold onto the winger but may be unable to resist offers from elsewhere due to the financial impact of Covid 19.
The Senegal international has so far made 67 appearances for Watford scoring 18 goals. The 23 year-old has had a much more impressive showing in the Championship this season scoring 13 goals. He is also linked with Manchester United and with his current contract expiring in 2024, it is likely the winger will still come with a hefty price tag.
In hindsight, it appears that signing Diogo Jota was the correct decision for Liverpool as the Portuguese international had already brought along with him Premier League experience and has produced the goals for the Reds this season.
Ismaïla Sarr would certainly add some decent squad depth to Liverpool but at this time it is hard to see how the winger could get a first team place over the Reds current forwards despite their form. If Watford stick with their 40 million price tag, it is highly unlikely Liverpool will make another approach for Sarr just to add him to their bench.
