Manchester City lost their first WSL game of the season at Meadow Park as Vivianne Miedema's first half strike was enough for Arsenal to claim the three points.
Arsenal had all the early play and nearly took the lead when a low cross from the right nearly found Beth Mead. But thankfully for City, Roebuck was there to claim the ball.
City were struggling to get their foot on the ball and couldn't seem to deal with Arsenal's busy midfield. Jordan Nobbs flicked a ball superbly to Lisa Evans who cut in and shot just over the City goal.
Chances were few and far between for City, but the best chance they could've had came from Georgia Stanway's ball which released Janine Beckie. The Canadian was forced out wide and hence could only direct her effort over the bar.
The goal felt like it was coming and it did just before the break when a lovely through ball from Kim Little found the free-scoring Miedema who, as she normally does, fired under Roebuck and into the net.
The second half didn't start any better for the Blues though, with a mix-up between Roebuck and Houghton almost ending in the second goal.
Jordan Nobbs was brilliant all game and her well-struck volley almost found the top corner. Moments later she went close from the edge of the box and forced an important save from Roebuck.
City brought on Bremer and White, for her first City appearance, to try and create and attacking threat. But even with that quality, they couldn't create any meaning-full chances before the full time whistle.
Cushing's attention now turns to the Champions League where a trip to Madrid awaits the side after a 1-1 draw in the first leg. The side are now winless in three matches, and they will have to be at their best if they want to change that on Wednesday.
