Match Report: Bristol City 0-5 Manchester City (WSL)
Manchester City strolled to a 5-0 victory against Bristol City this afternoon as the Blues made it three wins from three this week. Goals from Tessa Wullaert, Ellen White, Caroline Weir and brace from Pauline Bremer gave a rampaging City a convincing victory.
As usual, Manchester City had all the early play and possession but didn't really create many chances. Tessa Wullaert floated in a brilliant delivery towards the charging Ellen White, but the striker failed to get on the end of the ball to turn it in.
All the City pressure was going to take it's toll at some point, and it was the new makeshift right-back Janine Beckie which made it happen yet again. A wonderful delivery from the right found Wullaert in the area, who took it down and finished superbly.
It was comfortable for the visitors, and they started to create a few more chances. Great combination play between Caroline Weir and Ellen White sent the latter through on goal, but could only direct her shot straight at Baggaley.
After the break it seemed evident that Bristol City had to try something to get back into the game, and they started to counter attack at pace. Salmon raced down the right and had the beating of Gemma Bonner, but Ellie Roebuck was equal to her effort and turned it behind.
City, again, continued to ware down the opposition with their quick incisive passing and the tired Bristol legs could only hold out for so long. A ball from Keira Walsh split the defence and allowed Ellen White to stroll through and roll the ball under the keeper to double City's lead.
And two soon became three when substitute Pauline Bremer manouvered away from her marker and fired into the bottom corner. That goal signalled a late flurry of goals, and what would a City win be without a trademark Caroline Weir long range strike. She received the ball 30 yards out from a Bremer lay-off and found the bottom left corner.
Bremer bagged her brace with the last kick of the game to put the icing on the cake of a brilliant performance from Nick Cushing's side. He will now want to build on that win when they take on bottom of the table Liverpool at the Academy Stadium next weekend.
