With the return of the Premier League after a somewhat interesting International break, today saw City take a trip to strugglers Fulham for an early kick off. Pep’s side went out knowing that a win would put them back on top of the league table, a point ahead of Liverpool who play Spurs on Sunday.
Goals from Bernardo Silva and Sergio Aguero secured the three points for City who made Fulham look out of their depth in the Premier League.
Here’s how we rated the players:
Ederson - 6
A few parries, punches and catches really only stopped Ederson from having a quiet game.
Kyle Walker – 7
Hit the post in the second half, defended well all game against quick but hapless Fulham attackers.
Nicolas Otamendi – 6
Gave some silly fouls away but never looked in trouble throughout the match. Hope he stays at City for a little while longer.
Aymeric Laporte – 6
Shaky start but grew defensively smart and solid as the match progressed. He knows exactly when and where to put a pass going forward. Never looked in danger of conceding.
Oleksandr Zinchenko – 7
Incredibly comfortable on the ball despite not having much defending to do. His intelligence doesn’t get enough praise in my opinion, know a smart pass when he sees one. Great attacking option going forward.
Ilkay Gundogan – 7
Kept the ball moving well in the deeper position role. When Fernandinho came on he had more space to roam and attack the Fulham back line. Came close to scoring more than once.
David Silva – 7
Not as explosive or as eye catching as Raheem or Bernardo but David Silva is still so crucial to how this City team play. His lightning quick ball control, first touches and smart passes are integral to opening up scoring opportunities for the front three.
Kevin De Bruyne – 7
Still not at his tip top best but he’s slowly getting there. Still a danger to oppositions looking for an assist from anywhere on the pitch. Almost grabbed a goal but Rico tipped the ball over the bar.
Bernardo Silva – 9 (Man of The Match)
Stunning yet again. Opened the scoring and created the second goal with his constant pressing of the Fulham defence. But what’s great about Bernardo is that he never stops and never drops his concentration levels. One of City’s most dangerous players right now and my bet for the club’s player of the year.
Raheem Sterling – 8
Unfortunate to not get a goal but his work rate was top notch all game. His build up play and pass and move style has come on leaps and bounds since he joined City. Caused Fulham all sorts of problems and could have won a penalty.
Sergio Aguero – 8
Shame he had to be taken off early in the second half. Superb in the first half with dangerous build up play and a classic Aguero style chipped finish for City’s second goal. Hope his injury isn’t too serious, City will need him in top form for the remainder of the season.
Gabriel Jesus – 6
Flashes of brilliant footwork and passing play but no real threat at goal.
Fernandinho – 6
Slotted back into his deep midfield position as if he’d never been away. There’s no player around more perfectly suited to that position in this team than Fernandinho.
Riyad Mahrez - N/A
Not enough time to get involved and make his mark on the match.
