Manchester City welcome Chelsea to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoonknowing their form has to drastically improve if they’re to have any chance of retaining the Premier League title. Here’s how we predict City will line-up…
Aymeric Laporte and Leroy Sané are still long-term absentees and Pep Guardiola confirmed today that they're not likely to be available for the next 2-3 months. Bernardo Silva has been suspended by the FA in the wake of the racism-controversy from several weeks ago and Oleksandr Zinchenko is also missing.
Ederson is expected to make a return in goal following the fairly disastrous appearances of Claudio Bravo before the international break, which is sure to give the defence some much-needed confidence. As for the defence itself, we can probably expect a fairly straightforward lineup of Kyle Walker, John Stones, Fernandinho and Benjamin Mendy.
Ilkay Gündoğan is the obvious choice to play as the deepest midfielder, while Kevin de Bruyne will surely start after an incredible international break. With Bernardo Silva suspended, David Silva walks into the side.
I’m hoping and expecting Riyad Mahrez to get a go on the right wing, with Raheem Sterling opposite. Sergio Aguero is the most likely to start up front ahead of Gabriel Jesus, who hasn’t had the best few weeks.
The bench is hard to predict, as always. Claudio Bravo will be there, as will Phil Foden, Nicolas Otamendi and Gabriel Jesus. Also providing cover will be Angeliño after his impressive showing against Liverpool, with Joao Cancelo and Rodri rounding off the substitutes.
