Manchester City centre-back John Stones has emerged as a shock transfer target for Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, according to Sun Sport.
The link between the recently appointed Arsenal manager and Stones is they are both represented by the same agency and the rumours are that the Englishman is keen to discuss a move, even if it's just on loan.
Stones has seemingly fallen out of favour with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, and with a Euro 2020 England squad to fight for, the 25-year-old will want to be playing more regularly.
An unnamed Sun Sport source has said:
“He was in London to see his agent last week and is due back again this week.
He knows if he is to resurrect his England career he has to get more time on the pitch. Arteta is in need of defenders so it could be perfect for both of them.”
Stones featured in Manchester City's recent 6-1 win away at Villa Park, and will now want to build a run in the side, especially with Aymeric Laporte close to fitness.
However, Stuart Brennan from the MEN has reported that the club have ruled out Stones leaving in this transfer window. Despite this, if he's still third or fourth choice by the end of this season, his future will be under discussion.
