Breaking: Man City set to start academy star striker against Bournemouth

Liam Delap is set to start for Manchester City this evening against Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup third round at the Etihad Stadium, according to Sami Mokbel of the Mail.

The 17-year-old has seen his profile rise substantially since making the move to City's academy from Derby County. Scoring in the recent EFL Trophy clash with Mansfield Town has moved his standing into the first-team, and is now set to make his first-team debut, possible earlier than expected.

With Sergio Aguero ruled out through injury, and Gabriel Jesus required for the weekend's fixture with Leicester City, Delap is set to be handed the opportunity to prove his ability - albeit in a relatively lesser fixture.

Coaches at City have identified the teenager's ability to hold up play and hold off far more experienced defenders despite his relative inexperience. Manchester City fans will be excited to see how the promising teenager gets on this evening and he faces high-flying Bournemouth, who have only just been relegated from the top-flight.
