Manchester City have submitted a significant offer for Coritiba full-back Yan Couto - placing the Premier League champions ahead of La Liga giants Barcelona, in the race for the 17-year-old, according to Jorge Nicola of Yahoo Esportes.

According to the Brazilian outlet, Manchester City have submitted an offer that could reach €15 million - a purchase offer of €9 million plus potential add-ons of €6 million, depending on the player's development and progress at the Etihad Stadium.

The report goes as far as to claim that a deal is just awaiting a medical before the transfer can become official. However, the 17-year-old would not make the switch to England until the summer, with the club having to wait until after his 18th birthday in early June.

La Liga giants Barcelona are claimed to have only offered a figure in the region of €10 million - €5 million below that of Manchester City when taking into account performance-related bonuses.

Despite being just 17-years-old, Yan Couto has already been dubbed the 'next Dani Alves', following impressive performances for the Brazilian national side at U17 level. Barcelona were believed to have won the race earlier this month, however reports on Thursday morning suggest that this is far from the case.

UPDATE [02:58AM] : According to Felipe Dalke, the fee is slightly less than first reported - €12 million in total, split equally between an initial transfer fee and performance-related bonuses. It is claimed that Yan Couto has already travelled to England is expected to sign his Manchester City contract on Monday.
