Manchester City midfielders Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan have reacted to Monday's news of club legend Sergio Agüero's departure at the end of the season.
It was confirmed by the club at 8pm on Monday night that, upon the expiry of his current contract this season, Agüero would be moving on to pastures new.
The Argentine is etched into Manchester City history and will be the club's all time leading goalscorer for a long time to come.
First of all, ahead of Spain's World Cup Qualifying game on Wednesday, Rodri was asked for his reaction to the news.
The Spaniard said, "Hopefully he makes it into a big team because it's what he deserves. I have a great relationship with him. We are friends and I wish him the best in the world. He is a great scorer."
Teammates since his arrival in 2016, Ilkay Gundogan also payed his own tribute to the striker, on the eve of his captaincy in the German national team tomorrow night against North Macedonia.
Gundogan said, "He's an incredible guy. I feel a great sense of gratitude. His legendary goal [vs QPR] is unforgettable. I always get goosebumps when I watch it with the original commentary in English.”
Reaction to the news of Sergio Agüero's departure continues to flood in from around the world, but the question still remains about what his next steps are, with Barcelona among several major European clubs considering a high-profile move.
