Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish has opened up on his admiration for Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne - citing the Belgian star as one of the key influences in his own personal style of play.
Speaking exclusively to UMM on YouTube for a new feature with Harry Pinero, Jack Grealish responded to a number of assumptions from fans on social media.
When asked whether there was one Premier League player who he looked up to, Grealish said, “Kevin De Bruyne is my favourite player. He's probably the most perfect footballer in the Premier League. I just try to take little bits out of his game."
"Although I had a good season last year, my big chances created weren't as high as other people in my position. I think now my expected assists and big chances created are up there as well", Grealish continued.
"So that's what I wanted to improve on, and that was obviously because of looking at de Bruyne, looking at his game and what he does."
The Aston Villa man is now one of the premier talents in English football, after two spectacular seasons in the Premier League with his hometown club. His fantastic performances have seen him linked with many of the top clubs in the country, including the currently runaway Premier League leaders.
Although Manchester City were linked with the Aston Villa man last summer, the asking price from the Birmingham side was likely deemed too high for the Etihad hierarchy to pull the trigger - however, should Grealish maintain his upward trajectory, you wouldn't bet against City officials showing an interest once more in the summer.
While Jack Grealish states the inspiration he gains comes from watching De Bruyne play, he also acknowledged the current crop of young English players that join him in gaining lots of attention.
"I think we always get compared don't we; me, [James] Maddison, Mason [Mount], and Phil Foden has started to come into it now..."
