In the build-up to Manchester City’s midweek clash against Wolves on Tuesday night, centre-back Ruben Dias spoke out about the mentality of the squad as they look to extend their winning streak to 21 matches in a row.
The Portuguese international praised the togetherness of the team, and their collective ambition to fight on all fronts. The 23 year-old had this to say:
“What makes the Manchester City team is all of us. Everyone brings a special attribute, but the team survives because all of us are good, have the right mentality. We have infinite ambition of wanting to win. I've never seen this in any team like I'm experiencing now..."
“This desire of everyone wanting to be a part of it and wanting to be on this top level and win more and more and more, that is what makes this team.”
He went on to speak about his personal mentality when playing week in week out with long standing records on the line.
“I don’t think about [records], just let it come. That's the best way to preserve it. You need to keep the level, keep playing good with the right mentality. The other day I was thinking of how many times I answer to friends and family saying 'one game at a time'..."
"To have that feeling, just have it in your bones - if you don’t actually believe it then you won’t ever make 20 wins in a row. Apart from saying it you actually have to believe in it right now and since we began. We just believe in it. That is who we are..."
Dias and his Manchester City teammates will look to turn their record setting streak into 21 straight games tonight in a tough match against Nuno Santos' Wolves - who took all six points against the Blues last season.
