Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola spoke out about midfielder Phil Foden in the build-up to Sunday’s defeat in the Manchester Derby, and hailed the midfielder for an incredible season thus far.
Foden has shown his best form in a Manchester City shirt this season, and has been consistently rewarded for it by playing in the bigger matches that he typically would not have played in before this season.
His tally of six goals and three assists has seen the 20 year-old join the starting eleven in games at Old Trafford, Anfield, and Stamford Bridge.
In an interview with Sky Sports over the weekend, Pep Guardiola spoke out about Phil Foden's current form in a Sky Blue shirt, and revealed just how good he believes the Stockport-born attacking midfielder can be.
"[I am] more [delighted] than you can imagine. I'm delighted for him. He deserves all the credit. He was the reason why. So good, so far."
He went on to say, "But still, I talk many times to them, so keep working, don't listen much, don't read much, don't listen to pundits, the nice words they tell you. This is a tough, tough job. Your focus is maintained for 15 years, every three days - this is the most difficult thing, that's why you have to stay calm.
While Pep Guardiola has come into criticism in recent seasons for his handling of the the midfielder's development, the Catalan manager is certain the ceiling is high for Foden.
"But he loves to play football, he lives for that and that's why he's so nice to coach. And I'm pretty sure he will become an incredible legend of this club. We're going to take care of him and the rest he will do it."
