Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has sat down with BT Sport to discuss a variety of topics; most notably the rise and rise of the 'Stockport Iniesta', Phil Foden.
Despite making over 100 appearances for the club at only 20-years-old, this season has acted as a breakthrough campaign for youngster. He has scored 11 goals and notched six assists in all competitions, and Pep Guardiola has given an insight into his quality.
"We thought he had everything to play with us at only 20 years-old. It doesn't matter if you're 20 or 28, if you have the skills and the talent you can play. I think he was patient to wait for his moment and he has to continue to be patient."
"He believes in himself and doesn't listen too much to what the beautiful and well-prepared pundits like you say, Rio! He stays focused on what he has to improve and he will be exceptional"
Despite all his qualities however, Pep Guardiola still believes there are areas of Phil Foden's game that need improvement - Particularly the speed of his play, something Pep Guardiola believes comes from the youngster being 'full of energy'.
"Still he is playing football in one rhythm and he needs to combine different rhythms to be an exceptional player," Guardiola began. "He makes all his actions in one explosion, and when you play in the middle you have to be more calm."
"But maybe it's because he is 20 years-old and has incredible energy to take on the world, to do everything and this is normal. And this is not because I'm saying you have to be in different rhythms he's got to change; no, season by season, game by game he will realise"
One things for certain, Foden has time on his side, and Guardiola has admitted he has all the attributes to be a top player; "He has the desire, the potential, he loves this club. I'm pretty sure, if there's one player that can do it, he is the one, " Guardiola finished by saying.
