West Ham midfielder Declan Rice has opened up about his admiration for England teammate and current rising Manchester City star, Phil Foden.
The pair started together for England in a 2-0 win over Albania on Monday afternoon, and Rice was quick to heap praise on the Manchester City man.
“Even though I’m a West Ham player, I’m always watching the other games and people like Phil Foden”, Rice explains.
“He’s one, at the moment, who is amazing to watch. The goal the other night that City scored against Gladbach, where he took it on the back foot, dribbled and slipped it to Gundogan … it was just a breath of fresh air to watch a player do that."
He continued, “The way he ran through, it was just so silky. He is an incredible player.”
Phil Foden has emerged as a key figure in Pep Guardiola’s squad this year.
Some Manchester City fans had been put off by Phil Foden’s perceived lack of games during previous seasons. However, this season, Pep Guardiola has had no fear in playing the relatively inexperienced Foden in some of the campaign’s biggest clashes - and the Stockport-born star certainly hasn't disappointed.
The 20 year-old has pitched in with a career best tally of 11 goals and nine assists in all competitions this season.
