La Liga side Valencia are still pursuing Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo, in spite of Pep Guardiola's public expression of his reluctance to see the full-back depart, claim Marca.
The absence of Cancelo from the line-up against Sheffield United on Sunday evening, when many would have anticipated Kyle Walker to be rested, will only fuel talk of a potential return for Cancelo to Valencia.
Cancelo has not featured in the last seven league games for City. The Portuguese defender is reported to be anxious that his role in Portugal's national side at the 2020 European Championships will suffer as a result of his limited opportunities.
This has emboldened Valencia in the club's pursuit of their former player, and Marca add that they are prepared to play a 'waiting game' to land Cancelo.
Guardiola's comments would appear to rule out the possibility of Cancelo's departure in January. However, an exit in the summer could be likely should Walker continue to be the preferred choice at right-back.
