There is a belief among some players at the Etihad Stadium that both Fernandinho and Sergio Aguero are set to leave Manchester City this summer, according to the latest reports from England on Monday.

Both players are set to see their existing deals with the club expire ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, and with there being no signs of any intention to tie either of the veterans down to new contract extensions, concerns over their respective futures are beginning to filter among the supporter base.

According to Sam Lee of the Athletic on Monday morning, within an article solely focused on the importance of Fernandinho to this current Manchester City squad, it is reaffirmed that there are no contract talks going on at the moment with either the Brazilian midfielder or striker Sergio Aguero.

It is claimed that there are players at the Etihad Stadium who 'believe' that both players will leave the club upon the expiry of their contracts this summer. In the case of Fernandinho, it is reported that the current Manchester City captain has 'several offers', while a return to Athletico Paranaense has been 'talked up' by his agent.

To many, the idea of Fernandinho's contract being allowed to run down could come as a surprise, such has been his importance to the squad's success throughout the course of the current campaign.

Further highlighting the 35 year-old's importance to the current set up at Manchester City, Sam Lee writes in his article that a source close to Pep Guardiola confides the Catalan boss is able to focus on the tactical side of the game and preparation for matches because he is so confident that Fernandinho can manage the players in the way Phil Foden was alluded to.

Foden said of Fernandinho in a recent interview, "He is a massive figure and so important for us this year. Sometimes if the manager does not see if a player is down, Fernandinho will go and see if they’re OK. He’s the perfect captain on and off the pitch."

"He's just a great person, knows everyone well. If the manager misses something, that a player's upset, he'll see that and come and see how they're doing. That's why he's the captain - a great player, a great person."
