Manchester City are ready to break the bank this summer as they prepare to activate the £100m release clause of Napoli centre back Kalidou Koulibaly, as per 90min.

Named as the best defender in Serie A during the 2018/19 season, it comes as no surprise that City are willing to spend up to £100m on the release clause of the Senegalese defender. However, the blues will have to battle it out with fellow premier league powerhouses Tottenham and Chelsea if they are to secure the signature of Koulibaly.

City's recent defensive struggles have incited the interest in defensive replacements during the summer transfer window, with Aymeric Laporte and John Stones both struggling with injury problems. As well as this, the potential departure of Nicolas Otamendi could leave the blues with holes in defence that would have to be fixed in order to challenge Liverpool for the title next season.

The Blues are also looking to make improvements at left back, and are showing heavy interest in 23-year-old England international Ben Chilwell. This interest stems from Pep Guardiola's growing frustrations with Benjamin Mendy. It is no secret that Chelsea are also looking to aquire the signature of Chilwell after his impressive displays for the former Premier League champions Leicester, who currently sit one place above Manchester City in the Premier League.
