Spanish outlet AS, as reported by Sport Witness, claim that Real Madrid are hoping to make Napoli’s Spanish midfielder Fabián Ruiz their first signing next summer. However, Manchester City, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are all said to retain an interest in Ruiz.
The player’s preference is said to be to move to Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid side, which has prompted the Spanish giants to accelerate their efforts to secure the services of the Napoli playmaker. Ruiz’s contract is set to expire in 2023, and AS allege that Real Madrid have encouraged the player to only sign a new contract if it includes a modest release clause of less than €100m.
Ruiz, 23, is presently enjoying his second season in Naples having arrived from Real Betis in 2018. He has made fifty-five appearances in Italy, with eight goals to his name. Whether a return to Spain via Real Madrid beckons remains to be seen, as AS make clear that Manchester City are yet to end their interest in Ruiz.
David Silva’s exit in the summer would make a space available for a player of Ruiz’s talents, but Pep Guardiola recently suggested that he is unlikely to target a direct replacement.
