Pep Guardiola has confirmed during his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash with Leicester City this weekend that stand-out academy talent Liam Delap will be training with the first-team squad "every day" from next season.
There has been plenty of speculation in the past few days as to which striker would be taking over from Sergio Aguero next season, however a replacement may be closer to home than first presumed.
Talk of planned moved for the likes of Erling Haaland and Romelu Lukaku have intensified in recent days, but with Pep Guardiola's bombshell claim that the club may not be in a financial position to recruit a big name this summer, attentions may have to be focused elsewhere.
On the topic of Liam Delap, who has scored a remarkable 26 goals in just 21 appearances across all competitions so far this season, Pep Guardiola said, "Liam is training with us this season, like what happened with Jadon [Sancho] but Jadon didn't accept to sign a contract with us."
He continued, "Many players are training with us and Liam is doing really well, we are in touch with Enzo [Maresca] and how they are doing. He is training with us and next season he will be training with us every day."
The news of Liam Delap's promotion to regular first-team football and training will be a welcome boost for all Manchester City fans, given his remarkable form in front of goal this season.
In the Premier League 2 division alone, the former Derby County academy forward has scored 20 goals and provided a further four assists in just 15 appearances.
This has also prompted a number of high-profile Championship clubs to sound out a possible loan move for next season, however the information from Pep Guardiola on Friday afternoon would suggest that the teenager is firmly in his plans for the future.
