Despite suffering several key injuries already in the 2019/10 season, manager Pep Guardiola says Manchester City don't plan to make any signings in the January transfer window.
Key centre-back Aymeric Laporte and winger Leroy Sané have both suffered injuries that will keep them out until the new year. Laporte's absence has been felt in particular, with the performances of Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones drawing criticism without the Frenchman.
Meanwhile, players such as Kevin de Bruyne, Benjamin Mendy and Oleksandr Zinchenko, as well as Stones himself, have missed games through injury. However, Guardiola says he doesn't think the club will make any major purchases during the month-long window at the start of next year.
Speaking prior to Manchester City's clash with Aston Villa at the Etihad on Saturday, Guardiola said: “January window we are not going, well I think we are not going, to buy. The club didn’t introduce me to the players they thought could help us so, without that, it’s not going to happen..."
The January window has traditionally been a quiet one for City, with Edin Dzeko, Wilfried Bony and Laporte being amongst the few significant winter purchases in recent years. Contrary to popular belief, even Gabriel Jesus was a summer signing who joined Manchester City later in the season.
