Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is reported to be 'in love' with Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz, and his admiration is 'no longer a mystery'. The Blues have been long linked to the 23-year-old, and the latest updates have come from CalcioMercato as relayed by Sport Witness.
These reports are similar to early claims from CalcioNapoli24, who had stated that Guardiola has been a long admirer of Ruiz. City are looking to bring in two midfielders next summer, with club legend David Silva departing and Fernandinho entering into the final years of his contract.
There is currently a dispute between the club and Ruiz around the release clause in his contract. Napoli want to extend his deal, which currently runs until 2023, with a higher release clause being putting in place. However, the talk from Ruiz camp is that the player wants the clause to be lower.
Negotiating with Napoli will obviously mean a return to a familiar face in Aurelio De Laurentiis, who was heavily involved in the attempted deal to bring Jorginho to the Etihad Stadium. De Laurentiis was constantly disruptive in proceedings, which led to Jorginho changing his mind and instead joined former Napoli boss Mauricio Sarri at Chelsea.
Manchester City are said to be going back and watching the Spaniard in December and have 'plans in place' to sign him in the summer.
