As per the reporting and relaying of quotes from German newspaper BILD, former Manchester City left-back Angelino has hit out at his former boss Pep Guardiola over his handling of the full-back’s development at the Etihad Stadium.
In his second spell at the club, the young Spanish full-back made only six Premier League appearances for Manchester City - two of which came against the then soon to be Champions Liverpool at Anfield, and against Manchester United later in the season.
As per quotes provided by German newspaper BILD, the 24 yer-old spoke out about his unhappiness with how his development was handled at the Premier League club.
“Pep killed me and my self-confidence. After my move from Eindhoven back to Manchester City he had already passed his judgement on me in two games and didn’t give me a real chance after that. That’s why I was happy to be loaned to Leipzig in the first place..."
He went on to speak about his recent experience as a loanee, and now permanent member of Julian Nagelsmann’s RB Leipzig squad.
"Now I’m a permanent part of the club. One manager [Nagelsmann] gave me confidence, let me play. The other didn’t. At Leipzig, I felt confidence from day one. The club/coach gave me an incredible push. I'm happy to play consistently.”
Angelino has now become a key figure for the German club, and is currently tied for second as the club’s leading goal scorer in all competitions this season.
