As Joachim Low’s tenure as German National team coach comes to a close, Manchester City and Germany midfielder Ilkay Gundogan poked fun at the subject of Pep Guardiola taking over the role when asked about the subject.

Ilkay Gundogan has emerged as a key player for Pep Guardiola this season after the Manchester City boss pushed him into a more advanced role - garnering fantastic attacking performances from the 30 year-old.

In a press conference in the build-up to Germany’s World Cup qualifier against North Macedonia - a game that saw the away time come out on top in a surprise win - the Manchester City man said this on the topic:

“Personally, I would take it in a minute. There is no question about that. But I have a hard time imagining Pep is available right now.”

He continued, “Accordingly, I do not think there is an alternative right now, and I honestly do not know if I would like it - if all of a sudden I did not have him at the club.”

While the question of Pep Guardiola managing the German squad is a far fetched idea, the Catalan boss is certainly familiar with many of the players after his time in charge of Bayern Munich.
