Replacement Lined Up - The Transfer Round-Up (28/07/19)
Well, that was exciting wasn't it? This whole Leroy Sané 'saga' certainly has taken a turn for the worst, if you are to believe everything you read in the press. We also bring you the usual updates on the Thiago Almada ordeal as well as the latest on the future of two of our youngsters. All that and more in today's transfer round-up...
Leroy Replacement Lined Up
Manchester City are claimed to be resigned to the departure of Leroy Sané to Bayern Munich this summer, that according to Spanish outlet AS. A replacement is said to be lined up in anticipation for the exit of the German winger. Bayern manager Niko Kovač certainly seems confident on the situation, by stating to ZDF Sport:
"Our leadership is very engaged there. I'm confident and assume that we can get him."
That replacement is said to be Real Sociedad winger Mikel Oyarzabal. Officials at the Etihad Stadium are said to have made contact with the entourage of the Spanish winger, and if he was to accept such an offer, City will not hesitate in activating his €75 million release clause. Real Sociedad themselves are aware of this interest from the Premier League champions. Oyarzabal is seen as a symbol of the present and future at the club, and so a move away this summer would be a massive blow.
But how could we go an entire day without two contrasting Leroy Sané reports? That's right, we certainly couldn't today. Fabrizio Romano claimed that the Germany international is still yet to make a final decision on his future. In fact, this delay in a decision is frustrating both Manchester City and Bayern Munich.
Enquiries in the wake of stalled negotiations
It did seem evident to most of us that the Joao Cancelo deal was moving further and further away from completion. This theory was confirmed by SPORT on Sunday afternoon. It was reported that 'in recent days' Manchester City have enquired about the availability of Barcelona right-back Nelson Semedo, however the Catalan club responded stating that he is not for sale.
This enquiry came as a result of negotiations for Juventus defender Joao Cancelo stalling. However, despite this enquiry, Barcelona consider their own Portuguese right-back as 'non-transferable' and have referred to his €100 million release clause.
Following in the footsteps of Leroy?
New name alert! Turkish Football claim that Manchester City made their interest in Ahmed Kutucu (19) very clear to Schalke towards the back end of the 2018/19 season.
The Turkish international is said to have interested City officials following some impressive performances, and the Premier League side will be keeping tabs on him throughout the forthcoming campaign. Schalke have made it very clear that he will be remaining at the club beyond this transfer window.
The Gabriel Heinze effect?
According to Record in Portugal, as translated by Sport Witness, Velez Sarsfield are convinced they can retain the services of Thiago Almada for one more year. Manager Gabriel Heinze is claimed to be crucial in the process of speaking with the teenager. Almada is that close to the manager that he is referred to as 'Thiago Heinze' in the Velez dressing room.
The Portuguese newspaper went as far as to say Almada will remain in Argentina, and will only move to Europe when he is 'more ready'. Velez will offer the teenager a new contract and, in the event of it being accepted, his release clause will be increased from €16 million to €25 million.
Deal off for Tosin?
Given how quiet this one had gone, many had anticipated an update of this nature would come about sooner rather than later. According to Sky Sports News, Blackburn Rovers are turning their attentions from Tosin Adarabioyo elsewhere, specifically towards German central defender Robin Bormuth.
It is claimed that although a season-long loan deal was agreed between the two clubs, the move in its entirety has now stalled, and the Championship side are now exploring other targets.
Preference Over Demand?
It's fair to say we all expected stories along these lines to come along this summer, however after his goalscoring exploits for the blues in Asia, suitors of a higher calibre may have been expected. Nevertheless, Alan Nixon of the Sun brought about the latest on the future of Lukas Nmecha on Sunday morning.
It is claimed that the Germany international is destined to head out on loan next season, however his destination is far from set in stone. Although the striker would prefer a move to his home nation of Germany, Wigan Athletic are said to be one of the club admiring the 20-year-old's talents. The Latics are just one named club, with other sides said to be interested.
Loan Move #5Imminent
Marlos Moreno hasn't had the best of luck since making the move to the City Football Group project in 2016, and after four previous loan spells across Europe and South America, the Colombian winger could be set for yet another loan move.
According to Record in Portugal, the 22-year-old is expected to complete a one-year loan move to Portimonense. Despite a minor delay in the deal, the winger is set to have the deal completed imminently. Although the report did state Sunday as the day of completion, nothing seemed to materialise.
