Sources close to Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan have insisted that it is not tactical changes that have led to the improved performances of the German international, as per the latest reporting from Sam Lee of the Athletic.
The German midfielder just feels good in himself at the moment, and seems to finally be over the COVID-19 complications after he contracted the virus at the start of the season.
The 30 year-old has found himself with a much more advanced role in Pep Guardiola’s team - pitching in with five goals in his last seven league games.
However, Sam Lee also reports that those same sources say the German believes he is better as a holding midfielder for Manchester City - a role in which he excelled in during the club's 2018/19 title winning run that featured 14 straight wins when Fernandinho was absent due to injury.
Gundogan scored once again for the club on Wednesday night with a composed strike from the spot that saw City temporarily top the table following a 2-0 win over Aston Villa.
