As the transfer mill continues to turn, so does the Manchester City news.
From a youngsters saga appearing to come to an end to the club's all time leading scorer wanting a contract extension and more, we've got you covered in our January Transfer Breakdown - Part 13...
Eric Garcia on his way to Barcelona
[Rumour Rating: 9]
The saga has rumbled on for ages now but it appears Eric Garcia’s move to his hometown club, Barcelona, is finally all but signed and sealed.
As the news broke in the last 24 hours that an agreement between Manchester City and The Catalan club for Garcia to join Barca for free in the summer, very few supporters of either club could be surprised.
ESPN’s Moises Llorens has reported that the young defender only has one thing on his mind: playing for Barcelona, with whom he has everything ‘agreed and sealed’. Again, this comes as no surprise to anybody involved with the respective clubs.
There have been whispers of PSG being interested in the Spaniard, however I believe Garcia’s desire to return home will trump any Parisian interest. The rumour rating of ‘9’ is a reflection of that.
City in for QPR youngster Sinclair Armstrong
[Rumour Rating: 7]
Highly regarded QPR youngster Sinclair Armstrong is set for a move away from Loftus Road as his current deal is set to expire.
Regarded as a premier talent out of the Republic of Ireland, Armstrong will be courted by a number of big clubs. No surprise to anybody, Manchester City appear to be one of those clubs. Armstrong is a versatile forward that can play anywhere on the front line. A perfect addition to City’s youth ranks who just won the FA Youth Cup.
This story feels like it could have some legs as Manchester City are notorious for recruiting some of the best talent around Britain.
Contradicting reports around Locatelli start to swirl
[Rumour Rating: 5]
It is no secret that Manchester City and Pep Guardiola admire Sassuolo midfielder Manuel Locatelli. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, there is ‘nothing serious’ between the two clubs. However, Romano’s idea of a £40M price tag is certainly within budget for Txiki Begiristain and the rest of the City hierarchy.
Sport Italia has reported that Sassuolo director, Giovanni Carnevali had this to say, “I didn't deny that two days ago we received an offer from an important foreign club, but we'll not sell him this January.”
However, my rumour rating of ‘5’ is based on the contradicting rumors regarding the young Italian.
City chase a fresh deal for Scott Carson
Rumour Rating: 8
Manchester City want to negotiate a new contract with Scott Carson to keep him for the next 18 months. The Etihad hierarchy are 'relaxed' about the situation but are in talks with Derby over cancelling Carson's current deal, to discuss a separate contract with the player.
My rumour rating of ‘8’ is a reflection of City’s ability, by hook or by crook, to keep Scott Carson in Manchester. Pep Guardiola himself has mentioned how important Carson is to the squad, essentially as an auxiliary coach.
I could see Carson around this City team for years to come, no matter the capacity of his role...
Sergio Aguero still eager to remain at City
[Rumour Rating: 9]
Sources close to Sergio Aguero insist he wants to stay at Manchester City, reports Sam Lee. Don’t forget that this is at a time when they are planning to bring in a new striker in the summer.
While Aguero has missed most of this season due to injury, and now currently a positive Covid-19 test, I do still fully expect Aguero to be wearing sky blue this time next year. It was anticipated that Aguero would return to the starting eleven for the Aston Villa game on Wednesday, however his contraction of the Coronavirus ruled him out.
My rumour rating of ‘9’ is rather sentimental, however I expect the club to extend the contract of the all time greatest goal scorer in Manchester City history.
