Chelsea are reportedly in 'prime position' to sign Sergio Aguero on a free transfer from Manchester City this summer, according to an exclusive report from the Mail on Thursday night.
The news comes just days after Manchester City confirmed in an official statement on the club website that the 32 year-old would be leaving the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season, after ten years of sublime service under Roberto Mancini, Manuel Pellegrini, and Pep Guardiola.
However, leaving Manchester does not necessarily mean the legendary Argentine forward is destined to leave England, and reports on Thursday night suggest Aguero could have his eyes set on an extended stay in the Premier League.
According to an exclusive report from Dominic King of the Mail, Sergio Aguero is 'determined' to continue his career in the English top-flight, and Chelsea are in 'prime position' to sign the Manchester City forward upon the expiry of his current deal.
Chelsea, like officials at the Etihad, will be in the market for a big name striker in the upcoming summer transfer window, and along with the current Premier League leaders, will have their eyes firmly set on Borussia Dortmund's star forward Erling Haaland.
Mino Raiola and the player's father Alf-Inge are currently embarking on a European tour, meeting with officials of five major clubs who have signalled their intent to sign the striker this summer. After meeting with Barcelona and Real Madrid on Thursday, reports have suggested that the pair could now be en route to London, where they will meet with officials from Chelsea and Manchester City.
However, given the level of competition and the number of clubs hunting the signature of the 20 year-old Norwegian, back-up options are having to be lined up by all clubs. For Chelsea, that may be Sergio Aguero, along with the likes of Romelu Lukaku - who is also turning heads at the Etihad Stadium.
