Manchester City and Chelsea both see Romelu Lukaku as the ideal Erling Haaland back-up plan as they head towards the upcoming summer transfer window, according to the latest claims from transfer insider Dean Jones of EuroSport.

Both clubs intend to pursue Erling Haaland as their prime forward target in the coming months, however with the recent potential price tag of €180 million set for the Norwegian by his current club Borussia Dortmund, the two Premier League giants may be considering a plan B.

Romelu Lukaku has taken Serie A by storm this season, scoring 19 goals in 26 league games.

His scintillating performances seem to have helped launch Inter to their first Scudetto in nearly 11 years.

His emergence as one of Europe’s top striking talents has landed him on the shopping list for many of the big European clubs, including Manchester City and Chelsea.

For the Premier League pairing, the drop down in price from Erling Haaland to Romelu Lukaku is not a steep one, considering the substantial financial backing at the disposal of both the Stamford Bridge and Etihad clubs.

Popular football statistics website Transfermarkt have valued Romelu Lukaku at nearly £90 million, however his price may only be cheaper than Erling Haaland due to his age of 27.
