BILD’s Christian Falk claims that Manchester City are the favourites to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland. Falk states that in terms of money and prestige, perhaps only Real Madrid currently rival the Premier League leaders in the race for Europe’s hottest talent.
In quotes relayed by Sport Witness, Falk had this to say on the ever evolving race to sign Haaland between the Europe’s top clubs.
“They [Chelsea] are finding themselves a little bit behind Manchester City internationally in terms of development - they already suspect that it will be more difficult to get Haaland. They will bid, but it will be difficult..."
He went on to say, "Similarly, Manchester United are not one of the top clubs in Europe at the moment. I don’t think Liverpool can either; they lack the necessary funds. Man City have a luxury situation that they think about, do we bid for Harry Kane, or do we bid for Haaland, or both?"
As far as who can truly rival the Etihad club for the Norwegian’s signing, Falk said this,
"If they try, both aren't easy, but it shows what kind of power is behind them. The only one they have to fear is maybe Real Madrid, but they also have a bit of money problems, so Man City are high favourites for Haaland if BVB sells him...”
The Manchester City hierarchy have made it very clear that they will sign a striker this summer, and Haaland to absolutely nobody's surprise, is reportedly the number one target.
