Reports from the Manchester Evening News on Friday morning have suggested that a decision is still to be made on Sergio Aguero's contract.
There is growing uncertainty surrounding the future of the legendary Argentine, especially with the increased feeling that the Etihad club will focus a large majority of their focuses on the recruitment of a successor to Aguero in the upcoming summer transfer window.
On a slightly different note, but by no means less exciting in any way shape or form, the MEN go on to suggest that Manchester City also have the funds to sign Lionel Messi this summer should he be available on a free transfer.
There remains some level of uncertainty surrounding the Argentine forward, and with the 32-year-old still yet to commit his future to the Camp Nou beyond the current season, there may be some level of confidence regarding the possibility of signing the player at the Etihad.
On the topic of Borussia Dortmund striker, Erling Haaland - who many believe to be the perfect striker to sign in the upcoming summer window, the Manchester Evening News report that the Norwegian international has also ‘commanded attention’ from the viewpoint of Manchester City.
Sergio Aguero, who is the Etihad club’s all time leading goalscorer, has had an injury hit 18 months and the club may just feel that his fitness is not guaranteed if they extend his contract.
As I personally have stated on many of City Xtra's transfer breakdowns throughout January, I fully expect the Manchester City hierarchy to extend the contract of the Argentine.
However, the club will still likely to bring in reinforcements to ensure they do not have a repeat of this season’s lack of a fit and firing centre forward in the squad.
