Manchester City will look to make a splash in the summer transfer market in order to overhaul their goal scoring options, and the Mirror reports that Pep Guardiola's side will ‘push’ for a deal for Erling Haaland in the region of £100 million, as well as Lionel Messi.

City’s all time leading goal scorer Sergio Aguero is yet to receive an offer from the club to extend his contract beyond this season - and it is claimed that the City hierarchy want the 32-year-old to prove he can remain fit and firing before extending his deal.

The Premier League side have made it clear that signing a top goalscorer is the number one priority this summer. Pep Guardiola spoke about his side’s lack of a ruthless streak after their 2-0 victory in the Champions League round of 16 tie against Borussia Monchengladbach.

“In general we played really well but we were not clinical enough up front...we have to be more clinical. You have to finish the action, at least make the keeper make a save and we didn’t do it", Guardiola said.

While Borussia Dortmund phenom Erling Haaland has a buy-out clause of around £65 million in his contract set to kick-in in 2022, the German giants should be keen to sell this summer as they could get nearly double that figure for the Norwegian with many of Europe’s big clubs ‘unwilling to wait’.

If Manchester City are unable to secure the deal for the Dortmund forward, the club is reported to have a list of up to five alternative targets including Inter Milan's Romelu Lukaku.

There have been rumblings that the Etihad hierarchy could be unwilling to work with Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola, but according to The Mirror, a senior source within City understands the club will have no problem working with the super agent in order to see the deal across the line.

As for Lionel Messi, it is understood that Manchester City have not held open talks with the Barcelona star. However, with his current contract set to expire in the summer, a reunion with former Boss Pep Guardiola could be on the cards.

The Premier League leaders have also been linked with deals for Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak and Benfica’s Darwin Nunez.
