Man City have 'made contact' with Atletico Madrid star valued at €100m
Manchester City are targeting a number of centre-backs this window, and recently 'made contact' with Atletico Madrid in regards to José Gimenez's availability, claims Duncan Castles on the TransferPodcast.
Pep Guardiola is determined to bolster his squad's defensive options ahead of the 2020-21 season. Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly has been the player most strongly linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium, but Castles suggests other options are under consideration.
Chiefly, he claims that City have already enquired about Gimenez (25). However, Atletico apparently 'did not respond well' and demanded a fee of at least €100m for the Uruguay international.
Gimenez signed for the Spanish side in 2013, and has since established himself as one of Europe's most esteemed defenders. He has made 189 appearances for Diego Simeone's notoriously robust side.
Additionally, it is asserted that Benfica's Ruben Dias (23), remains a possible target, with the Portuguese side ready to cash in should a 'sufficiently large offer' arrive.
Castles also corroborates recent reports linking Sevilla's Diego Carlos with a move to City, but says that the Brazilian is only an alternative option.
