Manchester City have ‘knocked on the door’ of Serie A side Atalanta to gather more information on left-back Robin Gosens, claims TuttoMercatoWeb.
The German international is one of many Atalanta stars unearthed by the club’s fantastic recruiting department, and could be a perfect fit for Pep Guardiola’s inverted full-back system.
Manchester City have seemingly made it clear via various media reports that they will prioritise a left-back this summer, along with a striker and a central midfielder.
Oleksandr Zinchenko, Aymeric Laporte, Joao Cancelo, Benjamin Medny and Nathan Ake have all featured on the left flank for Pep Guardiola so far this season - presumably the club would like to narrow that list down and lock in their immediate future at the position.
The translated report from Sport Witness claims that the Etihad club could look to sell Oleksandr Zinchenko to open up space in the squad and the budget to pursue a move for Robin Gosens.
Atalanta could require a fee in excess of €35 million for the German, however a bidding war could ensue as reports suggest that both Atlético Madrid and Juventus are also interested in the 26 year-old defender.
It is worth mentioning that recent reports out of Portugal suggest that Sporting Lisbon left-back Nuno Mendes could be at the top of the left-back shopping list.
The 18 year-old has broken onto the scene this year and has turned the head of many of the big clubs in Europe.
And while Robin Gosens is in the prime of his professional career, and competing in a top European league, Nuno Mendes could prove to be a more long term option for the Premier League club.
