Manchester City are maintaining their contact with people around Sporting Lisbon's teenage left-back talent Nuno Mendes, according to Fabrizio Romano, as Pep Guardiola's side pursue a new left-sided full-back ahead of the summer transfer window.

Following the injury struggles of Benjamin Mendy in recent seasons, and Pep Guardiola continuously being forced into adapting existing players into the position, it now appears as though Manchester City are looking for a consistent left-back - and the upcoming summer window looks to be the opening for Etihad officials.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided the latest on Manchester City's interest in Nuno Mendes - an exciting 18 year-old left-back who looks to be at the forefront of the club's focus on the left-back position.

Speaking on the latest episode of the 'Here We Go' podcast, Romano said, "Manchester City are looking for a left-back in the summer - we mentioned Nuno Mendes some weeks ago. I can say again that they are in talks with people around Nuno Mendes."

"They have to decide about the price, because Sporting are always asking for his €70 million release clause - and imagine, if you can't spend €150 million on [Erling] Haaland, you won't spend €70 million on a left-back. So Nuno Mendes at the moment is not coming for this fee, but for sure he is considered as an interesting talent, so Manchester City are always in contact with people close to him," Romano continued.

Despite interest from Manchester City, Fabrizio Romano clarified that they are simply one of a number of clubs monitoring the player - which is unsurprising given the talents of the teenager.

"They are not the only club, because also other clubs are considering him as an option, but Manchester City are keeping contact and let's see what they will decide in May and June when they will decide their market strategy."

The only other left-back linked significantly with a move to the Etihad Stadium is Robin Gosens of Atalanta, however it appears as though the focus is more on the aforementioned Portuguese international.
