As time has gone in the transfer saga of Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, the shortlist of clubs who are reportedly interested or financially sound enough to sign the Norwegian phenom has dwindled.

At the beginning of this week the list was up to nearly ten teams who were in for the Dortmund man. Since then multiple clubs, including Chelsea, have been ruled out by either sources close to the clubs in question, or the players agent himself.

However, Manchester City have emerged as one of the front runners in this race, along with Manchester United and Spanish giants Real Madrid. Although, according to reports from AS, as relayed by Sports Witness, the La Liga club view the Blues as their ‘main rival’ for Haaland.

With a goal scoring record of 27 goals in 27 games this season, Haaland has planted his flag into Europe as the premier goal scorer in the sport. Because of these Ronaldo and Messi like stats, the Norwegian has found himself on the top of the shopping list for the usual big boys in European football.

For City, the club has stated that signing a goal scoring striker will be their number one priority this summer. And recent reports have shown that even if Lionel Messi ends up at the Etihad, a striker will still be signed. While Haaland is City’s number one target, the club have also been linked with a number of ‘plan B’ options - including Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku.
