Manchester City are 'weighing up their plans' for midfielder Yangel Herrera, who is currently impressing out on loan at La Liga side Granada, with a number of Premier League clubs monitoring the player.
The Venezuelan star has amassed a remarkable 38 appearances across all competitions this season, becoming a key component of a squad that has reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League - setting up a two-legged clash with Manchester United.
The performances of the 23 year-old have not gone unnoticed however, at Manchester City and among other Premier League clubs, and the latest line from the media is that Etihad officials are now 'weighing up their plans' for the player ahead of the summer transfer window.
This is according to Simon Bajkowski of the Manchester Evening News, who reports that both Southampton and West Ham are among the sides 'looking at' Yangel Herrera, with Manchester City aware of the interest as well as additional interest from Spain.
However, and perhaps more interestingly for readers, the MEN do not rule out the possibility of Yangel Herrera becoming a component of Pep Guardiola's first-team squad next season, reporting that the club are 'waiting to see if space opens up' in the squad. With veteran midfielder and club captain Fernandinho expected to leave upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the current season, this could be the opening to emerge for Herrera.
It is claimed that Manchester City scouts and officials have reached the conclusion that adapting to the specific demands of the Premier League would not be an issue for Yangel Herrera - who is viewed in a similar light to Douglas Luiz, now of Aston Villa.
Across the 38 appearances Yangel Herrera has made for Granada in a deep-lying midfield role, the former Atletico Venezuela man has scored eight goals and registered a further three assists.
Manchester City and the City Football Group will be keen to point out that Herrera is quickly becoming one of the stand-out success stories of the CFG scouting project and model, after signing for the club or group in 2017.
The midfielder has been on loan on three separate occasions - once at Manchester City's sister club New York City, then at Huesca, before gaining the attention of many clubs this season at Granada.
