Reports from England on Friday morning have revealed what sort of impact Sergio Aguero's future at the Etihad Stadium could have on Manchester City's potential pursuit of a striker this summer.
Over the past few weeks and months, the most reliable line from sources close to the club via various news outlets has been that City will intensify their pursuit of a Sergio Aguero replacement this summer - after failing to invest heavily in the striker position last summer, in favour of recruitment elsewhere.
However, some corners have been asking the question: If Sergio Aguero was to extend his current deal at the Premier League side, would that put any striker interest, particularly interest in Erling Haaland, on hold for another season?
The answer, in short, according to journalist Rob Dawson is no.
ESPN write that Manchester City will continue their search for a new striker even if Sergio Aguero extends his stay at the Etihad Stadium. It is however claimed that as a result of the Argentine entering the final few months of his contract, Serie A giants Juventus are among the clubs interested in signing the 32-year-old on a free transfer.
Rob Dawson claims that Aguero's future is not linked to Manchester City's summer transfer plans whatsoever and adding a new striker to Pep Guardiola's squad remains an option, regardless of whether or not striker calls an end to his 10-year stay in Sky Blue.
This does of course give City fans further encouragement that club officials will indeed be pursuing the likes of Erling Haaland or Romelu Lukaku this summer - the two players that have been linked the heaviest with a switch to Manchester.
Sergio Aguero has just returned to on-the-field competitive action for City, featuring in the final 10 minutes of the squad's 2-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The feeling in many corners is that if Aguero can prove his fitness and put a run of consistent appearances together between now and the end of the season, then Manchester City will not hesitate to repay the hard work of the player in the form of a contract extension.
