Inter Milan are eager to finalise a contract agreement with defender Alessandro Bastoni (21), to deter rising interest from across Europe, including Manchester City.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy, the 21-year-old has been on the radar of several prominent clubs across Europe for a while now, and with the defender’s contract set to expire in 2023, that interest is only growing.
Rumours in Italy suggest that the Nerazzurri are getting close to tying the defender down to a new long-term deal, suggesting that Bastoni will become a key part of Inter’s future plans.
Bastoni, who is admired for his ball control and accurate passing, is thought to have the ideal defensive qualities for Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.
The Italian defender has spent nearly all of his career at Inter Milan, growing into an indispensable defensive option for Antonio Conte.
With 33 appearances in all competitions already this season, it is clear that the club are putting a lot of faith in the youngster, who made his senior debut for the Italian national team late last year.
Although there may be an interest in the centre-back, it is certainly difficult to foresee a scenario where Manchester City would make any move for the player in the immediate future, following the heavy investment last summer and the subsequent defensive success witnessed this season.
