Sporting Lisbon have reportedly identified a replacement for in-demand teenage left-back sensation Nuno Mendes in anticipation of an official bid from Premier League leaders Manchester City.
According to A Bola, the Lisbon club have lined up Wolverhampton Wanderers left-back Rúben Vinagre as a potential replacement, if and when 18 year-old Nuno Mendes departs the club.
21 year-old Vinagre is currently on-loan at Famalicão in Liga NOS, and has garnered attention from both Sporting Lisbon and their city rivals Benfica.
This news will be a boost to Manchester City, who have stated that left-back will be a priority position going into the summer transfer window, along with central striker and a possible new recruit in midfield.
This season alone, Pep Guardiola has been forced to rotate a host of players on the left flank - Benjamin Mendy, Joao Cancelo, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Aymeric Laporte, and Nathan Ake have all featured in the position.
Sporting are said to be open to negotiating a price for Mendes - €50 million is the reported to be the starting price. However, recent reports have stated that with Mendes making the Portugal national team for the first time, that price could rise.
