In November 2020, André-Pierre Gignac scored twice as Tigres beat Toluca 2-1 and qualified for the Mexican Apertura Playoffs. With those two goals, the French striker became the top European goalscorer in the history of the Mexican league, breaking a record that had been set 74 years earlier by the Spanish player Isidro Lángara.
